Then, one fateful day in the late summer of 1993 I walked into a craft store to purchase a painted wooden basket only to find out it was a sample piece of an upcoming painting class. The only way was going to get a basket was to sign up for the class and paint it myself. Of course, "I could never to that!" was to be an expression the shop owner had heard before and she responded with, "You’ll never know until you try". So, determined to own a basket I signed up for the course never expecting to ever use those brushes and paints I had to buy. It was a 4-week course that taught me many things but the most critical was the permission to make a mistake. I’ve been making mistakes ever since and loving every minute of it.

Now that the children are all married and creating families of their own (9 grandchildren), I have taken over two rooms of the house to make a home studio which I teach, sell and design from. I teach both kids and adults with ages ranging from 2 to 81! I believe I am a better teacher than a painter but am growing in my technique with each "mistake" I produce. The Ausable River Decorative Artists. I am available to travel teach and am willing to teach basic beginners through advanced.

Passing my Canadian Standards of Excellence in Primitive in 1998 and attaining my Mary Owens’s Certification in 1999 have both been challenging and rewarding. It is with the support of my best friend & husband, Jay that I am encouraged to keep trying; besides, I’ll never know until I try!
