Thanks for taking the time to know a bit about me. As long as I can remember I have had the creative urge, it is a passion (some would say an obsession) with me! It started at the age of nine with sewing and has progressed through the years over a wide genre of artistic endeavors.
Designing and creating custom macram© pieces in the latter seventies led me to learn the ceramic process from the ground up. The creative possibilities opened up new horizons and I became a nationally Certified Ceramic Instructor and Master Air Brush Artist opening my own shop. Not content to remain stationary I began searching for techniques to take what I had learned to other mediums. However as life will do; these plans went on hold for awhile. My saying became when I retire I am going to,
Life threw me a crisis; which became a true turning point. After a severe health crisis I clearly saw the folly of putting off for tomorrow what you want to do today! Decorative painting drew my attention and I began to study the art and eventually moved on to traditional oil painting. The required drying time of oil paint left me feeling terribly restricted and I began to search for other avenues. After joining the National Decorative Artists Society I happened upon an oil technique called pen and ink w/oil rouging. The first classes I attended used gel pens and I must admit that had this been the only way to do Mary Owens paintings I would have quit from sheer frustration!! I decided that it was time to learn from the master herself; Mary. What a joy it was to work with the technical pens and to learn the proper rouging technique; I was sold!!
The rest is history! After becoming a fully certified Mary Owens™ Teacher, I opened my studio. Besides travel teaching I offer weekly classes at the studio and occasionally bring in guest instructors. The studio offers a selection of painting surfaces, supplies, and a gift corner. I am dedicated to teaching others the enjoyment that I have found. It is exciting to see when a student learns they can paint! If you would like more information about classes or supplies or would like to be placed on the mailing list please stop in for a visit or call 541-889-9271 or email me at: rrcreations@msn.com Looking forward to seeing you.
