Hi, my name is Jade Gale. I live in Langley, British Columbia, Canada, about 20 miles from Vancouver. My husband, Derek, and I have two children, Leann who is in University and Tim who, with his wife Krista, presented us with our first grandchild, Mackenzie Isabella, born1 day after my birthday in January 2002. I’m still working full time in health care and enjoying my other hobbies of bird watching, cross stitching samplers and being a grandma – you can tell I love that part the best.
I was introduced to the world of decorative painting in 1996 after seeing a display at a craft show. Shortly after that was a studio open house and from that point on, I was hooked. Class after class, medium after medium, my interest never lessened but I found I got the most pleasure from the pen and ink. My first project was from the Pipsqueaks series – a Christmas stocking of Santas that’s still my favorite and hangs up all year in my craft room.
The first Mary Owens piece I saw was The Colony and I fell in love with it. When Mary was booked to teach in a studio near me, I think I was the first to sign up. Mary’s enthusiasm is contagious, her patience limitless and her generous sharing of tips and techniques is unique among teachers. I liked the fact that the projects were challenging enough for the experienced and easy enough for the novice – everyone’s pieces were lovely. When her Certification program was offered it was a given that I’d be there. I completed my certification with Mary in October 2002 at the Raindrop Chapter Northwest Toleliner’s Convention in Seattle. I’m very proud to call myself a CMOT.
I’ve now done almost all Mary’s designs and have enjoyed them all, barns and old buildings are still my favorites ‘tho. I’m teaching at home right now and look forward to trying my hand at designing patterns and doing some travel teaching. If you’re ever in the Langley area give me a call and we’ll get together to sing Mary’s praises.
