Hallo, since you have reached this page, you must be interested in Mary's Pen & Ink with Oil Rouging. Once, you have crossed her way, it is almost impossible not to be hooked to this technique.
A little bit about me: I was born in France, where I lived my first five years until my parents moved to Germany. There, I spent most of my lifetime, married the nicest man in the world and together, we raised three wonderful kids. My husbands work brought us to the U. S. in 1999.
Over the years, I had always some kind of creative hobby, depending of time and circumstances. While the kids were small, I did a lot of knitting, sewing and cross stitching. Later, I had a small business in arranging dry flowers together with different materials to pieces of art.
In 2002, I saw an instruction book for decorative acryl painting and had the urge to paint a certain pattern out of it. Never before have I had a brush in my hand, but the piece came out not to bad and I thought, I should give it a try and went for painting classes at the local night school. My teacher at this time made me feel like an artist by choosing projects that were both, manageable and pretty. Step by step, she was teaching me all the different strokes, how to use all kinds of brushes and how to use acrylic paint in many different ways.
Many brushes and bottles of paint later, I began to be interested in making designs of my own. There was only one obstacle: I never learned how to draw. At this point of time it happened, that the Houston Art EXPO came to town and there was a design class offered by Mary Owens using a projector and her own technique in Pen & Ink with Oil Rouging. I took the class and immediately knew: that was it! Every aspect of the whole thing was right for me. Getting a clue of what one can do with the projector was like opening a jar of flies; the ideas kept coming out and won't stop. Any design
is possible - no matter how high or low the drawing skills are. Being able to correct any mistake done while inking or rouging makes it so easy to accomplish beautiful pieces of art.
Now that I am a Certified Mary Owens Teacher I am very happy to share the skills and joy about this technique with as many people as possible.
