Beverly Harper 5356 Ratliff Rd. Callahan, FL 32011 (904) 879-6911 BVRLY0108@aol.com My Husband, Raymond and I live in the small town of Callahan, Florida, just outside of Jacksonville and have been married for over 40 years. I have two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
As I think back over the years, I have always been involved in creating things of one kind or another, such as ceramics, sewing for my children and for the home, counted cross-stitch, gardening, crafting, etc. Trying new things always interested me. I got started in this wonderful art form of Decorative Painting partly due to the “nagging” of my sister. She wanted to learn to paint and wanted me to go with her. Together, we joined the local chapter in Jacksonville and there our new adventure began. We took classes in acrylics and oils from Priscilla Hauser, Joyce Morrison, and several other wonderful teachers - oh those many, many, many stokes, leaves, apples, daisies, etc., that we did!! I also took several watercolor classes as well. It took me a while to realize I was “hooked” on painting - all other “hobbies” seem to go by the wayside with this new interest of mine!!
I first admired Mary’s beautiful work at the Orlando EXTRAV in 1997. I took a class from her the following year and immediately fell in love with her techniques, her enthusiasm and manner of teaching. I have since taken additional classes from her in Greenville, South Carolina, our local SDP Chapter, and in Lakeland and Panama City, Florida. I never tire of her creativeness.
My friend, Audrey Whiddon, and I have taught Mary’s technique at Audrey’s studio and we plan to teach a workshop in February 2001 at our local SDP chapter, the Decorative Artists of Jacksonville, Florida. The possibilities are endless with Mary’s technique!!!
