Introducing Mary's Certification Program |
|
|
This is a little bit of "history" regarding the program
and how it got off the ground. After teaching
Pen and Ink and Oil Rouging for so many years, I have found that many of my students have
discovered how easy and successfully this can be taught. After getting many
inquiries about first of all getting permission to teach my designs as well as the
technique, along with requests for help in finding the brushes and Gel Transparentizer;
it occurred to me that this would be a great program to initiate.
Many of my students have told me that I should start a certification
program and I am now into my ninth year of offering these seminars! The first program was offered in Panama City Beach at the Wisteria Inn. Carol Wolske, her husband and mom made us very comfortable in their oceanside hotel. The "First Fourteen" met to get this program off the ground and it went wonderfully. We had 5 days of studying and sharing together and the girls are doing great. Many students taking the program are planning to build teaching careers around it along with the other techniques they are proficient in, but some are taking the course purely for enrichment. This is a personal choice, and the possibilities are limitless. Part of my plan to help these teachers get recognition in their abilities is to introduce them and have you be able to get acquainted with them as teachers and artists. I have brief biographies along with pictures of the teachers by geographic location. [Meet the teachers!!] Certification is not determined by signing up for the seminar, attending, and coming out with beautiful pieces at the end of the week. After taking the program, I know at the end of the session how talented the students are with the technique, but what is the makeup of a really good teacher? This is what I am striving for. At the end of the session the students have several months to complete a video of them teaching a class. This is sent to me for evaluation. I want to see the interaction of student to teacher. I want to see how questions are handled and mistakes are corrected. It takes much more to teach than being a beautiful painter! I am now offering the opportunity to work with me in a seminar to achieve certification in lieu of the video, and that is working wonderfully. ARE
