BARN AT PINE KNOB
PEN AND INK WITH ROUGED OILS
pkt.# 4

An introduction to pen and ink along with a new approach to adding color with conventional oil paint. Beginner level, but even the most experienced student will enjoy the update on new materials that are being introduced to the market. This project started as a photo I took after passing by this barn every day. See how to take your own photos and turn them into patterns that can be used to develop your own designs! This project is done on 16" x 2O" stretched, med. texture canvas, but could be done on wood, or any variety of surfaces. A prep sheet will be forwarded to you detailing all the specifics of this. One of the nicest features of this project is the versatility of background choices. It is not mandatory that the entire class make the same choice. The project works well with the variety, and the students get to see the results on the different choices.
Along with this choice, each student will get pen and ink worksheets, and written instructions for inking on glass. I will also share some secrets for designing and laying out patterns that a lot of teachers and artists use to save time! Let me show you how to use a projector to eliminate tracing patterns. Just reduce your pattern on a copier, put design into the projector, project the image onto the surface you want to work on, adjust the size to fit the surface, then pencil the pattern right onto the sweatshirt or whatever you choose to work on, OR go right to the medium you decided to work with [pen and ink, oils, watercolor, etc.] No more tracing patterns and running to the copier every time you need a design reduced or enlarged.
